Introduction to Gift Deeds
A Gift Deed is a legal document by which a person (donor) voluntarily transfers ownership of property to another person (donee) without any monetary consideration. Gifts are governed by the Transfer of Property Act, 1882 (Sections 122-129), and the Indian Contract Act, 1872. Gifts can be of movable or immovable property, and the requirements for a valid gift differ depending on the type of property. A gift must be made voluntarily, without coercion or undue influence, and with the intention to transfer ownership immediately.
